Suspected Stalker Inquired: 'Yet Imagine I Might Be Madeleine?'
A female charged with pursuing Kate McCann allegedly left her a recorded message which posed: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the tribunal heard communication data and evidence obtained from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test over the past two years.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most publicized child disappearance cases and is still open.
'I Don't Want Money'
One voicemail, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I feel."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail stated: "What if there is a small chance that I am Madeleine? What then? Isn't that important for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a existence here in Poland, I just want to understand," she added.
The panel was advised that via emails, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, an investigator with the police force who compiled the evidence, told the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also communicated with family friends of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt recorded a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I won't give up and I will prove my point."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg established a relationship online with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' property in the county in December 2024.
Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had contacted via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the months leading up to the appearance to Rothley, that area, in that winter.
The court learned communications between the two individuals, in November 2024, discussing endeavoring to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from utensils at a restaurant.
"We must assert ourselves," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their residence, the defendant transmitted a communication which said: "We are positioned outside the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark similar to detectives. I had hoped to do this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The case continues.
